This small city garden is about play and delight. It was an honor (and good fun) working with an artist/owner to invent an environment for his outdoor life and for some of his quirky sculptures and installations. We designed a circular path in varied materials which passed through patio and garden, connecting a stairway from the deck to a back gate. We tied the usable parts of the garden together and created distinct and unusual planting spaces. Circles are often an elegant and interesting solution in rectangular gardens, an approach of which we never tire.
